STEVE PARRISH ON THE JEREZ MOTOGP
There have been winners and losers after the Japanese MotoGP was postponed because of the volcanic ash cloud covering northern Europe which made travelling such a problem.

Let's start with the losers.

The biggest one is probably Casey Stoner. The 24-year-old Australian crashed out while leading in Qatar on his Ducati, leaving Rossi to begin the defence of his crown with a win.

When a rider makes a mistake like that, the best antidote is to get back out on the bike as quickly as possible and put things right.

That has not been possible for Stoner, who has had an extra week to think about what might have been.

I felt very sorry for Stoner. He did everything right all weekend and made just one error.

In my view, the penalty was greater than the crime and he ended up picking himself out of the dirt.

Now for the winners.

The Yamaha duo of Valentino Rossi and Jorge Lorenzo will no doubt have benefited from the time off as they recover from minor injuries.

So will Honda's Dani Pedrosa. His team have looked a bit lost with their settings, but maybe this has given them time to sort things out.

Pedrosa has certainly struggled with the changes to the suspension on his bike and did not seem at all comfortable at Losail in Qatar.

But at least it is very fast. His team just need to get him tuned into it.

Hopefully that will happen at the Spanish MotoGP this weekend.

As his record shows, Pedrosa is no mug when it comes to racing at Jerez. He won there in 2008 and led for much of the race in 2009.

Here is my prediction for Sunday's race.

1) Casey Stoner 2) Valentino Rossi 3) Dani Pedrosa

Presented by Gavin Esler

With less than a week until polling day, Gordon Brown has said he will fight to "the last second" as he battles to persuade voters that he should be allowed to remain in office.

Tonight, the prime minister will face another test as Jeremy Paxman interviews him in the last of his one-to-one interviews with the leaders of the main UK parties.

The interview will be broadcast at 8.30pm on BBC One and we will have highlights on tonight's programme.

We also have the final edition of Friday Night at the Marginals, with Michael Crick in Morley and Outwood this time.

The area's traditional industries, such as textiles in Morley and mining in Outwood, have all but vanished, though the constituency has made a good recovery, buoyed by a diversified economy and proximity to the booming city of Leeds.

But can Ed Balls hold on to his seat here in the face of a strong challenge from Antony Calvert of the Conservatives?

And what impact has Cleggmania had on Labour's chances of holding on to this seat and others like it?

Plus with Labour trailing the Liberal Democrats in most recent polls, we'll be discussing whether Nick Clegg's stated aim of "replacing Labour as the dominant force of progressive politics" is now looking more likely.

Join Gavin at 10.30pm on BBC Two.
